April 10 Proclamation
City of El Paso, Texas
WHEREAS: El Paso has long been the home of immigrants and immigrant families are valued members of the El Paso community; and
WHEREAS: Our nation, state and city need immigrant workers to grow and prosper; and
WHEREAS: A sound immigration policy enhances our security; and
WHEREAS: There is a consensus that our immigration system is broken and hurting employers, workers and families; and
WHEREAS: There is commitment from President Obama and members of Congress to reform said system; and
WHEREAS: Communities around the United States and in El Paso will mobilize on April 10 in support of comprehensive immigration reform that is humane and fair; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED: by the Mayor and Council of the City of El Paso that April 10, 2010 shall be known as:
“DAY FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM”
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the official seal of teh City of El Paso to be affixed this 10th day of April, A.D., 2010.
