El Pasoans turn themselves in to jail 05.05.10

March 5, 2010, more than 50 community members turned themselves in to the El Paso County Jail to protest the Arizona anti-immigrant law SB 1070. That law would make every Hispanic person suspect of being an undocumented immigrants and susceptible to being stopped. The El Pasoans took a stand in solidarity with Hispanics who live in Arizona and against the spread of racial profiling laws to Texas. One by one, they turned themselves in to Sheriff’s deputies who declined to arrest them, saying they did not enforce immigration law in El Paso and stand against racial profiling, which is illegal.
