BNHR Applauds Supreme Court Decision to Protect DACA
DACA Recipients Celebrate Major Win in Fight For Immigrant Protection
EL PASO, Texas – The Border Network for Human Rights (BNHR) celebrates today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision granting protection to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This is a major win for both individuals and families who have spent years fighting for justice. In light of unprecedented economic and health inequities facing our black and brown communities, this victory illustrates progress towards more inclusive and pro-immigrant policies that impact the lives of millions of communities around the country.
“BNHR is overjoyed at the decision that will provide more certainty to thousands of young people all over the country who have lived and contributed for so many years,” said Fernando Garcia, Executive Director of BNHR. “We are glad that with this ruling, the lives of these young people remain protected for now. The Supreme Court has thus confirmed that the process that the Trump administration engaged in to cancel the program was flawed. Above all, we want immigration laws to be reformed and that those reforms include all immigrant families, not just those with DACA / DAPA. We need a long-term solution and we call on Congress to act and bring a substantive solution for the 11 million immigrants in this country.”
