Community Policing in Dona Ana, New Mexico: Analysis from Border Network for Human Rights

Border Network for Human Rights has been working in Doña Ana County, NM to promote and protect civil and human rights for 15 years now. The organization is based on the needs of the community and offers a vision of human rights that has drawn nearly 1,000 member families.

This report offers our analysis of the state of community policing in Doña Ana County, NM and outlines a series of recent local government resolutions and public positions that local elected officials have taken, as well as comments by candidates for Sheriff. A comprehensive look at these developments indicates that County residents are on the verge of a new approach by local governments to public safety; one that seeks partnerships with all sectors of the community.
